Partners

This project is designed as a collaborative initiative, where we work closely with local knowledge producers and non-academic partners to deepen our understanding of how inhospitable landscapes shape the experiences of people-on-the-move. Our partners bring valuable on-the-ground insights that enrich our research, allowing us to map and analyze the border landscapes that people navigate.

In this section, you will find more information about our partners and the role they play in this research. If you are interested in working with us or would like to contribute to the project, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

UNITED Against Refugee Death
We use the UNITED List of Refugee Deaths to study how Europe’s border landscapes contribute to migrant deaths. With data on over 60,620 deaths since 1993, the database provides insights into how landscapes such as rivers, forests, mountains, and extreme temperatures can be deadly for border crossers.

Border Violence Monitoring Network (BVMN)

The Border Violence Monitoring Network is an independent, self-organised alliance of NGOs, associations, and collectives supporting people-on-the-move across EU and Schengen borders. It documents and exposes violence and human rights violations faced by people navigating these routes. BVMN collaborates both in terms of research and advocacy, combining on-the-ground evidence with policy engagement to challenge systemic abuse.
